Motown Gospel artist Tasha Cobbs Leonard is featured on the cover of the August 1, 2017 edition of CCM Magazine. Contributing writer Andrew Greer recently recently got the chance to sit down with Tasha in anticipation of the release of her new album Heart. Passion. Pursuit. (Aug. 25, 2017—buy).
In response to Greer’s inquisition about worship in African-American churches, Cobbs Leonard responsed, “I believe that God uses music as one of His tools to reach people. I’ve been leading worship and singing, basically, all of my life. I’ve had people say to me, ‘When the sermon couldn’t reach me, or the message couldn’t reach me, the song that you sang today really ministered to me in a way that I needed.’”
She added, “Music reaches the souls of people. It touches you in an emotional place, where sometimes words that are spoken can’t reach. So that has been my experience in the church where, sometimes, the worship song just does what you need. And I believe [music] is a tool that God uses to reach His people.”
The August 1, 2017 edition also features interviews with other gospel greats Fred Hammond (feature) and Bryan Popin (feature). New music reviews feature a return to roots for Third Day with their upcoming album Revival (review), Jesus Culture’s latest live effort (review), Mark Lowry’s What’s Not To Love?
