You know how you look at an album and see/hear around 10-15 tracks all put together?
You might think a musician spends the entire writing and recording process just crafting those 10 tracks… …that once a musician has an idea for an album, they’re able to write the exact songs they need and then put those songs together and call it “done.”
Well, I hate to spoil it for you, but it’s not that simple. At least, not for me or for anyone I’ve met. Typically, you end up writing dozens upon dozens of songs and recording quite a few demos in the songwriting stage. So unless you’re up for a 50-track album, a lot of tough decisions have go down. And that’s a good thing, because it makes you focus on what you’re album is really about. It makes you be intentional about the songs and stories God is calling you to share in this season.
For this new album, I’d say we compiled more than 30 potential songs. The selection process may seem so intimidating that you want to just draw from a hat to decide what songs you’re going to record for real…but if you take a breath, trust God, and surround yourself with an awesome team, it’s actually fun.
I know I told you about our first song meeting for the new record earlier, where we talked about the direction for this project. Well it was time for another song meeting, to better define the list of songs and begin finalizing everything. And I’m pretty pumped to say that it seems like we have a solid list of 7 of the 10 songs going on this new album! We still have a handful of awesome demos on the way that we feel really good about, so it’s going to be difficult to make the final decisions about those last three tracks… | READ full story at CCMmagazine.com
