Provident Label Group/Sony Music artists Third Day are featured on the cover of the August 15, 2017 edition of CCM Magazine. Getting to spend time with two-thirds of Third Day, contributors Matt Conner talk with front man Mac Powell and Mark Geil talks with guitarist Mark Lee outside the famous Strand Theater in Lee’s hometown of Marietta, GA. Lee will be releasing his first-ever book, Hurt Road (Revell Books—buy), in early September 2017.
Conner asks Powell about the sound of their latest release Revival (buy)—a departure from the pop-rock/worship flavor we’ve all enjoyed—to which he replied, “When you’ve been around for a long time it’s difficult to find that balance. You have a sound that people love, and that’s why they’re fans. But if you do that same thing over and over, people will get tired of it. Every once in a while, you have to say, ‘We’re going to do something different here for everybody’s good.’ I think that’s what Lead Us Back was. I’m very, very proud of that record, but Revival is definitely who we are.”
Lee added about his upcoming book release, “I grew up around [Marietta]. My mom was a school librarian, always bringing books home. I would just devour them and ask her to bring more and so, I’ve always been into books. I always figured that at some point I was going to get into either blogging or a book.”
The August 15, 2017 edition also features interviews with Nichole Nordeman (feature) and Manafest (feature). New music reviews feature Thousand Foot Krutch’s latest live offering (review), Finding Favour’s sophomore Gotee Records release (review), a live masterpiece from Sandra McCracken (review), Alisa Turner’s debut (review), and Holly Starr’s follow-up, Human (review).
